How to Prepare for an Exterior Estimate
A little preparation can make an exterior-project conversation more useful. You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself.
Write down what you have noticed
Describe where the concern appears, when you first noticed it, and whether it changes with rain or temperature. Safely taken photos can support your description. Do not climb onto the roof or enter unsafe areas to gather evidence.
Separate needs from preferences
List the concerns you want addressed and the changes you would like to make. Examples include a leaking gutter, a window that is difficult to open, or a preference for a different siding color.
Collect your questions
Ask about materials, preparation, access, cleanup, timing, and how unknown conditions are handled. Bring any relevant previous project records you already have.
Know the next decision
Before the conversation ends, confirm what information is still needed and what the next step will be. Request a written scope before approving work.
